Semester Programs

»Spend a Semester or Year Abroad

There is a capacity limit on semester abroad. Students might be placed on a waitlist.

All semester abroad programs have one of three levels of program availability:

  • Open
  • Limited
  • Restricted

Open programs can accommodate most or all applicants. Limited programs can accommodate some but not all applicants. Those not accepted may switch to another program that has not reached capacity in their given semester. Restricted programs receive many more applicants than it can accommodate, and most applicants will be referred to other programs that have not reached capacity in their given semester.

Additionally, certain semester abroad programs are reserved for specific majors/minors.

Students may view program availability and any major/minor restrictions in the "Overview" tab of the program brochure in the Global Gateway.

Get Started

To begin the application process, students must first attend a Global First Steps Session. Get your questions answered and learn about the variety of available programs, application requirements, costs and funding, and more.

Once you've attended your Global First Steps session, you'll be prepared to:

  • Meet with your academic or program advisor to discuss your remaining Chapman degree requirements
  • Meet with a Global Education Advisor based on your major to discuss your program selection.
  • Applications are due on the Global Gateway two semesters prior to going abroad; typically December for the following fall/academic year term and May for the following spring term.
With over 100 program types offered, you're bound to find the one that will best fit your career and personal goals while keeping you on track academically and financially. Explore them all on the Global Gateway.
